Take the quiz: Are you
Buddhist? Do you have compatible views to Buddhism?
Are you a Buddhist? Do you have compatible views
with Buddhism?
Answer these questions to find out:
Which (any or all) of the following
statements do you agree with?
1. I only believe in things I can see, hear, taste, touch, or
smell.
2. "Seeing" can also be from the thinking mind with flashes of
insight or understanding while in concentration, relaxation, or deep
meditation.
3. I believe that everyone is either born good or with a blank
slate which can become good or bad depending upon life choices, family
upbringing, peers, and culture. No one is born inherently or
intrinsically "evil."
4. People must take responsibility for every facet of their life
and stop blaming others.
5. People will say or write all kinds of things which may or may
not be true. It is best to check and see for yourself if the
statements or claims are true or if they really work.
6. Rites, rituals, and religious ceremonies are a waste of time
and are empty of any real value toward reaching higher spiritual levels
or God.
7. It is best to sit back and observe and reflect, rather than
immediately reacting to a situation, positive or negative.
8. I sometimes feel (or would like to feel) so connected to
nature that everything seems to be part of one living organism.
9. Sometimes it is best to let things happen, rather than trying
to force certain things to happen.
If you agree with five or more of the
above statements, then you are either a Buddhist or have compatible
views with the principles of Buddhism.
All of the above statements were the
ideas or words of the Buddha (563 B.C. to 483 B.C.) who is considered
the founder of Buddhism. The Buddha did not consider himself to
be a god or anything other than an ordinary man. He expounded
ideas which would later be proven by modern science and his teachings
are used throughout the world for inner and outer peace.
The Buddha taught non-violence, peace,
the importance of personal observation, and was opposed to religious
dogma, doctrine, and extremism.
The results page on the beliefnet quiz show how we are all inter-related, to other Buddhists and also to others of different religions. Percentages are shown as to which religions your beliefs most match and in virtually all cases, you will score high percentages on at least five different religions or sects of different religions.
